| We believe that positive reinforcement based training is the most humane and affective way to work with animals. We strive to use
the least aversive and correction based methods possible. Positive reinforcement training is not about being permissive, and it's not about being a total pushover to your dogs every whim! Positive reinforcement training is about establishing a relationship with your dog based on trust, not fear. We teach owners to reinforce
their dogs' desirable behaviors with attention, treats, praise and play. We want dog owners to understand the importance of allowing their dogs to learn new things and we teach dog owners how to focus on teaching their dogs desirable behaviors that will make them into well-behaved companions. We do not use electronic collar,
choke chains or any type harsh corrections. We often employ the clicker as a way to mark the dog's correct behavior, (easy and effective!) and food treats, toys and praise to reinforce the dog's good behavior. We use head-halters when necessary such as when working with dogs that are reactive towards people or other dogs
outside. We are open about discussing our training philosophy with dog owners and will happily educate potential clients on positive reinforcement training. Why Train at Home? Sure, there are a lot of great benefits to taking your dog to a group training class, but there are also so many advantages to having a training session in your own home. Training where you need it. Ever trained your dog to walk perfectly at your side at a group class, only to be pulled towards every other dog and piece of garbage on the street? This is because at a group class, your dog learns how to behave in the classroom. With Wag The Dog in home training, we teach your dog to behave where you need him to behave-at home, on daily walks, or at the dog run. Training where you want it. When you go with in-home training, you aren't at the mercy of group class schedules. We at Wag The Dog understand that New Yorkers don't necessarily work 9-5, 5 days a week. We'll come to you early in the morning or at night or on weekends-whenever you and your dog have the time and energy to learn. Training that works for you. With private training sessions, not only is the teacher-student ration extremely favorable, but the curriculum is also tailored to fit the needs and abilities of you and your dog. Do you have kids? We can involve the kids in the lessons, helping the dog learn to behavior around them as well as you. Have a dog who doesn't like treats, has food allergies, or doesn't respond to the lure and reward techniques often used in group classes? That is fine with us; Wag The Dog instructors are well versed in a diverse range of training techniques. We'll help you find the one that works for you. |
